Starting date: 1 October 2012

Brief description of the work

International Volunteer Day for Social and Economic Development (IVD) is about telling the world what volunteers can achieve for peace and sustainable development. It is a day for all volunteers to take pride in what they do, and to promote the benefits of volunteering to others. It is a day when volunteers, volunteer-involving organizations and their work should be recognized and applauded.

Key objectives are:

•    Raising global AWARENESS of the existence and importance of IVD
•    RECOGNIZING the commitment of volunteers and volunteer-involving organizations
•    INFORMING people about the IMPACT of volunteering on peace and sustainable development goals – virtually and face-to-face
•    APPLAUDING volunteers and volunteer-involving organizations for their dedication and impact

For IVD 2012, UNV will furnish volunteers and volunteer-involving organizations with the tools and evidence that they need to promote the existence and importance of IVD, and to win recognition for the impact of volunteering on peace and development goals.
